Hello All-
October has been a whirlwind month with the release and promotion of my newest book, The Smart Stepmom. A special thanks to all of you that sent notes of encouragement. This newsletter, along with my web site, offer links to various radio and TV shows. I recently taped 2 radio programs and video spots with Focus on the Family. I don’t have release dates yet, but stay tuned.
The holidays are fast approaching and this year will be the first time since 1997 that I’ll be back in my hometown sharing Thanksgiving with my family in NY. I’m looking forward to it!!
Please remember that the holidays are a difficult time for those who have experienced a loss. I encourage you to reach out to someone this year.
Today’s contest prize “Christmas Miracles” is a gorgeous book written by Cecil Murphy, and it would make a tremendous gift for someone you know. Enjoy!

Lately I’ve noticed little things that reveal I’m getting older. Some of them include:
- I find myself gravitating to the anti wrinkle section of the cosmetic counter.
- I no longer have any idea what color lipstick I’m applying because I can’t read the small print on the bottom of the tube.
- I walk into a room to do something only to discover I have absolutely no recollection of why I’m there.
However, I am thrilled to discover that the Bible shares there is a positive side to aging, “Is not wisdom found among the aged? Does not long life bring understanding?” Job 12:12. My bones and hair may be thinning, but I am not defeated. Scripture says I can “pump up” and my mind and become smarter than ever before.
On the popular TV show, “Are You Smarter than a 5th Grader?” the questions become harder as the contestant progresses from 1st grade up to 5th. Is there a litmus test for a Christian to determine if he/she is growing up and getting smarter, or merely growing old? Here are a few suggestions based on Ephesians 4:11-16... [read more]

I’m dating a wonderful man who has 2 daughters and I have 1 son. He and I are thrilled about our relationship, but the kids don’t seem very pleased. Why are they so unhappy? |
 |
It’s not at all uncommon for kids to be disinterested or unhappy when mom or dad begin dating after a divorce or the death of a parent. Adults falsely assume if they are happy, the kids will be too. The bottom line is that kids see this from a different perspective than adults. They view a stepparent as the loss of their biological parent to the new relationship. It prompts the death of the dream that their parents might one day reunite. Stepfamilies are always formed due to the loss of the original family to either death or divorce. That means grief abounds.
The Smart Stepmom book explains this complex issue in detail along with the ways you can help to minimize the grief for young kids, teens and adult children.
